WHY AGRI MECHANIZATION
The demand for sustainable mechanization and services will continue to rise naturally with a growing population's demand for food, feed and biological industrial raw materials from agriculture, particularly in view of the rural out-migration taking place and as the younger generation responds to economic opportunities in the agricultural service sectors and non-agriculture sectors, and in the growing urban centres for employment and improved quality of life.

What is now increasingly important is to encourage sustainable private sector development that can offer farmers the right choice of technology at the right price to increase agricultural productivity to support rural economic development, contribute to local and national food security, reduce post-harvest losses and promote local manufacturing of equipment and machinery.

Indeed there are already labour shortages and it is now increasingly important to encourage sustainable private sector development that can offer farmers the right choice of technology know-how to increase agricultural productivity to support rural economic development, contribute to local and national food security, and reduce post-harvest losses.

The key to this training will be to identify appropriate training needs, and to understand how those farmers' objectives, and hence their generic training needs, differ between the food insecure household, subsistence and emerging farmers, and commercial, profitable small-scale farmers.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

The objective of this training is to:-

  • Share basic knowledge with Farmers during tractor demonstrations and give them an opportunity to use and operate
  • Develop the farmers by means of agricultural development
  • Build upon what the farmers already know and have in terms of infrastructure and knowledge
  • Make use of practical demonstrations and interactive participation by the farmers throughout all training sessions to ensure they are able to improve their farming practices
  • Follow-up advisory and mentoring services to farmers
  • Monitoring and evaluation of all activities
